Activities and Lesson Plans to use with Chipo’s Gift

As a special education teacher for 14 years, I spent many hours thumbing through, studying, and dissecting the teacher’s edition of various language arts programs.  I found that many of the ideas and extension activities either did not fit into my thematic units or address my students’ skill levels and individual needs.  However, within each edition I was able to find some components that were exactly what I needed to enhance my lesson plans and meet the needs of my students.

With that in mind, please use the link above as a springboard for possible activities to accompany my book, Chipo’s Gift, a story about a mopane worm from South Africa.  Some of the following lesson plans and worksheets may be perfectly appropriate for younger children, while others may be better suited for advanced students.  These lesson plans are also available on LessonPlansPage.com.

To purchase the book that accompanies the thematic unit, please visit Amazon.com or visit my home page for details.

Also available: I would be happy to send a sample of mopani tree wood for teachers to use with a unit on Africa.  Please contact me at dtroehler@aol.com
with your request.
